NFPA 70E Compliance Audits

An effective electrical safety program takes tremendous time and energy to get right and that is why it is important that they are audited regularly.  Two types of audits must be performed to ensure an electrical safety programs effectiveness.  The first audit should be done internally at an interval not to exceed 1 year.  The second audit should be done externally at intervals not to exceed 3 years.  This will ensure the program meets the latest NFPA 70E Standard (NFPA 70E has a 3 year refresh interval).

Annual field work audits should verify the requirements of the electrical safety program are being followed.  If they are not being followed the appropriate adjustments should be made to correct any issues that are found in the audit.

The external audit every three years should verify that the principles and procedures of the electrical safety program are in compliance with NFPA 70E.

Both audit types should be documented.
